Dr Selwyn Bolel, Bch. MRCGP Dip. Therapeutics – Dr Bolel has over 30 years of experience as a GP. He offers a full range of medical services to his patients (including minor surgery).
Dr V. Rouse (F) – Salaried GP. Long Term Conditions Lead. Trained in Year of Care Support & Planning to provide personalised care for patients with Long Term Conditions.
Dr D. Macmillan (M) – Salaried GP. Palliative Care Lead.
Practice Management Team
Teresa – Practice Manager – Teresa is responsible for all aspects of managing the practice and developing and improving the services we provide.
Hannah – Reception Team Lead – Hannah manages the work of the reception/administration team to ensure the safe, smooth and efficient running of the office. If you have any feedback you would like to give about the practice, Hannah would love to hear from you.
Reception Care Navigators
Deborah & Lucy are your first point of contact in reception and also carry out a wide range of administration tasks. They have completed training in Active Signposting to enable them to “navigate” you to the right person or service. This ensures that you get the right care with the right person at the right time. To enable them to do this they will ask you for some information about the problem you have when you contact the practice. Our Reception Care Navigators are bound by the same rules around confidentiality as our GP’s.
Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Andrea is our Advanced Nurse Practitioner. She can see a wide range of problems, prescribe, diagnose and refer patients om. Andrea will see everything that a Doctor will see. She does not however, issue sick notes, deal with mental health problems or see patients who have pregnancy related problems. Andrea is able to remove the contraceptive coils.
Lina is experienced in the management of coronary heart disease, hypertension, asthma and COPD and runs the practice review clinics for these conditions. Lina has been trained in Year of Care Support & Planning to provide personalised care for our patients with Long Term Conditions. Lina also offers the usual range of nursing services from contraception advice and immunisations to travel vaccines and wound management.
Health Care Assistant & Primary Care Navigator
Chris offers a range of appointments from phlebotomy (bloods) and health and well being advice to carrying out new patient and NHS health checks. You can also see Chris for your flu, pneumonia and shingles vaccines as well as B12 injections. Chris supports the Practice Nurse in carrying out reviews for long term conditions and has also been trained in Year of Care Support & Planning.
Chris is also our Primary Care Navigator. If you or a relative registered with the practice require support with social problems (for example debt, isolation and loneliness, healthy living or housing issues) Chris can help by signposting you to services that can help and ensuring that you get the support you need.
Joanna Parslow and Andrew Brown – Joanna and Andrew support the practice by carrying out various medication related tasks. If you require a medication review or on going monitoring of your medication you may be seen by one of our Pharmacists.
Trish Mulligan provides healthcare advice for expectant mothers and young children. They are based in Tyne View Children Centre every Wed, Thur and Fri. You can contact them on 0191 4335090.
Collette Pearce – our midwife is available every alternative Tuesday from 1:30 till 3:30pm, providing care before and after delivering your baby.
Primary Care Mental Health Workers and Counsellors
Our Primary Care Mental Health Workers are employed by Gateshead Talking Therapies . They provide support for those experiencing common mental health problems like anxiety, depression and stress. You can refer yourself to the service direct by calling 0191 283 2541 or alternatively you can speak to your GP. Louise Cairns works in the practice on Thursday mornings but you may see another therapist depending on the type of therapy recommended by the service.
Kim Shepherd is a Counsellor employed by MIND. Counselling is intended to help you to deal with life’s difficulties and get your life back in order or back on track. It is an opportunity to talk about your troubles with a professional who has been trained to listen, to help you to understand your feelings and behaviour better. If you would like to be referred for counselling, book an appointment with a GP. This service does not take self referrals.
District Nurses visit housebound patients who require general nursing services. You can contact them through the surgery.
Cancer Care and Palliative Care
Carol Moore is the Macmillan Nurse attached to our practice. Carol provides support for patients with cancer and also for patients that require palliative care. Your GP can arrange a referral to this service.
